I'm Back! I was gone for so long. But now I have a laptop that actually works and time to actually write by posts. I can't wait to get back into the swing again. But as you all know it's almost Nanowrimo!
If you are a non writer. I apologize. I'll lay it out for you. November is NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth. NANOWRIMO for short. Writers all across the world will participate in the Nanowrimo challenge and attempt to write a whole novel in a month. Now a brief disclaimer.
A novel is defined as having at least 50,000 words written. Obviously lots of novels are longer than that. That's where the disclaimer comes in. Nanowrimo is AT LEAST 50,000 words in one month. There are lots of other writers who make 100,000 words their goal. Now that I've started college, do college homework, have a job, and need to sleep and have a social life I find that this is the perfect time to write a novel. What motivates a person to write 50,000 words than loads of stress.......
I lie. This is a pretty bad plan. But I already committed to it last year so I can't just back out now.
For any writers who are trying to do Nanowrimo this year I have some advice:
1. Tell everyone you can what you are doing this fall. It helps to get into the mood if there are people to support your Nanowrimo decision. Then you don't have people asking you to do things that are unimportant when the fate of your fictional characters and your pride as a writer hang in the balance.
2. Find some writing buddies. Other writers are crucial to your accomplishing your novel this next month. Having good writer friends (or really avid readers, both are fine) gives you someone to talk to when you reach a dead end in your writing. A new perspective on the scene you've agonized over is always a good thing.
3. Plot it now. If you aren't a plotter then do whatever you do. If your like me and your a plantser; then write that vague outline and little quotes and random bits of information and get ready for piles of stress. And good luck to you pantsers out there. I don't know what any of you are going to do with November.
I do have something that could help though. I'm not just full of vague advice. Something you could try looking into is making a Nanowrimo.org account. I have one. My account is Julie Larsen and I'm all set for this month. The question is. Are you??
Thank you for reading. Don't forget to subscribe to my website for updates on blog posts and pictures and writing prompts. I think that from now on I will be updating of Fridays because that seems to be the day that I will have the most time for things like this. Again, thanks for reading and have a good rest of October.
