Writer Groups

I've been putting off this post for a while having just come back from a trip. But I realized that if I didn't do this today that I wouldn't do it tomorrow either. So here I am writing this post for this week hoping that there are actually people who read this thing.

This weeks post will be about writing groups. Recently I met with some script writers from Cartoon Network. They gave me some good advice about handling rejection which I will only write about when I learn how to handle it myself. ;)

But one of the things they talked about was working in groups. Lots of writers have trouble talking to others because we're so introverted. I know I do. But talking to other people and other writers is an important skill of a writer. One thing they said that could help you get higher in the writing industry in whatever form you choose is connections. And how do you make connections? By talking to other people in the writing industry. And they suggested that one of the best ways to talk to other writers is with a writing group. Writing groups is another thing that is talked about a lot by people at the writers conference I went to. Its another way to make a connection.

When you find someone whose writing impresses you, you should ask them to join a writing group with you. 99% of the time if your impressed with their writing, they're impressed with yours. Once you have a nice writing group full of writers you truest you should have meetings, discuss your writing and give advice to each other. The one thing that you need to be cautious about when having a writing group is that they are allowed to give you suggestions about your book but that doesn't mean that you need to follow every single suggestion that they give. Its called a suggestion for a reason. And when you try to fix every single suggestion that they give it doesn't do you much good because some of their suggestions may contradict each other. And the more you try to follow every single one of their suggestions the less fun their is in writing.

So in conclusion for today's post, have a writing group full of people who you respect and trust and have fun with it but don't go overboard with pleasing your writing group and be cautious with your writing style, don't let it get diluted. Thanks for reading and stay tuned in for updates........

I really hope there's people reading this. ;)
